Overview

Woods Hole Daycare Cooperative is a parent-run cooperative early childhood program serving young children in toddler and preschool classrooms. The program operates year-round and relocates to a local congregational church site during the summer months.

Approach and curriculum

The program emphasizes respectful, developmentally appropriate child guidance, positive reinforcement, and child-initiated interactions. Staff document children’s progress across cognitive, social-emotional, language, motor and life-skills domains and hold periodic parent/teacher conferences and progress reporting.

Health, safety and policies

Families must maintain up-to-date state health forms and immunizations; lead screening is required for young children.
Children who are contagious may not attend until they are symptom-free for 24 hours; an illness-report process is used when children become ill at school.
Medication administration requires original labeled containers and written permissions; staff have first-aid and CPR training and the center maintains an emergency contingency plan and first-aid supplies.
Pesticide use is limited and follows a formal integrated pest management policy with notification and record-keeping.

Families and governance

The cooperative model requires family involvement in the operation of the program. Families are expected to serve on leadership committees, participate in chores and help with moves, yard days and fundraising. The program is governed by a board and leadership roles filled by participating guardians.
